
Here is a list of some of the questions to ask the parents before accepting
a babysitting job. Each family is unique and therefore each will have a unique
set of circumstances. When meeting a family get as much information as you can
for your own peace of mind.
How many children will you be babysitting, and what are their names and
ages?
Agree the fee and the hours required. If are you are required to stay overnight agrees the fee for doing so. If parents arrives back late, you should receive an extra fee for the time over what was arranged.
- What time is bedtime and what is the bedtime routine?
- If a child misbehaves, how do would you wish this to be handled?
- Are there any areas of the house that are off limits?
- Do the children have a drink or a snack before bed?
- Can the children settle themselves down?
- Do any lights need to be left on?
- Do the children have any allergies or special needs.
- Do children need any medication?
- Are the children allowed to read for a while before sleep.
- Do you read younger
children a bedtime story?
- Would you like the telephone answered?
- Are there any pets, if so do they need to be fed?
- Do you have a list of contact numbers in case of emergency?
- Confirm what the arrangements are as to how you will get home.
Make sure that you understand and feel comfortable with the responses to the
questions you ask. Then you are in a better position to decide if the job is
right for you.
Babysitting can be a fun and rewarding experience but it is important to remember
that you are providing a service, as well as making some extra money for yourself!
