My family and I are looking for someone who has excellent references and strong experience working for the elderly, someonewho can build a great relationship with my father and someone who is also committed to helping my father to build on the independence he now has as a post stroke patient. Dad (76) ad a big stroke in February. His personality (which is wonderful!), speech and arm strength have all fully returned and he is continent during the day. He can walk short distances with a walking frame but needs the help of two people. He also needs the help of two people to stand. We are looking for a live out carer, five days a week from late September/October (depending on my father's discharge date from Hospital ). We understand that we will get a care package of one or two carers from the state three times a day also. We also are getting a live in au pair. For this job, the following would be what we are looking for you to do (working with our au pair where necessary): (1). Helping dad to dress (he can do a lot on his own but needs encouragement); (2) Helping Dad to do standing practice several times throughout the day; (3) Walking Dad to the toilet and helping him with the toilet; (4) Walking Dad to the kitchen for his meals and making his meals (he lines very simple food); (5) Doing the exercise bike with Dad; (6) Keeping Dad stimulated with good chats (he is very sociable and known for his good humour) - the ability to chat about sports fixtures would be a bonus!; (7) Help the 'state carers' if they need a hand when you are there. My mum lives with Dad but has Parkinson's and although fully indeoendent she is unable to care for Dad. As mentioned earlier, our ideal person would have a lot of experience with elferly people, be very committed to building on their independence as much as possible and be able to build a sincere and lasting rapport with my Dad.
