About KatieBack to Top

Dear future families, I am a twenty two year old Irish student with ample childcare experience mainly from being an au pair, however I have also been a nanny once. I love to play sport and travel. I have travelled to over fifty countries and studied in Ireland, Spain, Italy, China and Hong Kong. I have recently completed my undergraduate degree in Commerce and have spare time between May 5th and October when I am due to start work. I have tutoring experience especially in business and mathematical subjects. I love being an au pair as it gives me an opportunity to experience a new lifestyle and even learn another language! I enjoy teaching children about my country, hobbies and language. I have excelled academically including receiving a university scholarship for my results, however I am dyslexic. I understand that all most children struggle with homework and school and when children have learning disabilities they often need to learn in a fun interactive manner. I believe I am good at adjusting my skills in order to suit the strengths of each individual child. Last summer I worked as an activity leader in Bell Summer School in Oxfordshire. I originally worked with children aged 11-17 and was responsible for organising cooking lessons for 16 students at a time, badminton training for 24 students and tennis for 18 students. I also helped organise evening entertainment along with a team. We often went on day trips to London and Westend shows which I’d be responsible for co-ordinating and looking after 30 students. After a month I changed to being an activity leader for younger students aged 7-11 and arranged a wide array of activities from slime making, treasure hunts and of course sport! In December 2018 I went and au paired in China for six weeks. This was an amazing experience. My responsibility was to talk English to two boys aged 2 and 4. Both were attending a British kindergarten in Shanghai so could understand a high level of English but rarely spoke it outside the school environment. The 4 year old was challenging to keep under control, however when he wanted to play with me we learned so much English and I though him to write English letters and English phonetics for reading. The younger boy had a shorter day at school and loved the attention of having a foreign au pair. He continuously repeated my phrases and by the end of my stay the two boys would only speak English at the dining table! I still WeChat the family regularly today and the boys love to show me their ever improving English skills. Summer 2017 I held three short-term summer au pair positions. First I did a two month placement with a family with two children ages 3 and 5. These children already attended a bilingual school so emphases was on keeping them active and ensuring they maintained a high level of English. Since this family had a full time housekeeper no food preparation was needed so I spent the majority of my working time doing homework, activity sheets and academic exercises with the children. The parents were keen to start their children playing tennis so I played tennis with the children daily. After this I went to and had my first live out au pair experience for a family with twins aged 8. When I started the two children had minimal English and due to their enthusiasm after only 5 weeks they had improved to B2/C1 level English! Since these children were on holidays my job was to create fun activities for four hours a day which usually revolved around the park, beach, pool and football. Next we would come inside for lunch which their cook had made while we were outside and eat. After we would do homework for two hours, I would read them stories and we would play bored games. I really enjoyed working with this family and often stayed over and spent my weekends off with them as the children were super fun and the parents were extremely welcoming. Next I moved to au pair for one boy aged 3 for another 5 weeks. The goal of this stay was to keep the child company while his parents worked and introduce him to English. Since the boy was only three and had never spoke English before he struggled to learn in such a short timeframe. However when he started i international school his parents and teachers were shocked that he knew so much! Summer 2016 I took sole charge and became a nanny for three children aged 6-11 from 8am-6pm for three months. This included waking them up, showering them, preparing breakfast and lunch, bringing them to activities and practicing lots of English as I prepared the children for transition into an international school. I began as an au pair when I was seventeen in Madrid for a family of four looking after two girls aged 3 and 5, this was more of a demi-au pair job since I was attending classes and more of a helping hand for the mother. This experience gave me a love for childminding and I have never stopped since! Since I am an outgoing person I adapt very well to various circumstances and have always learned quickly how to adjust to my employers family lifestyle. I remain in contact with nearly all my previous host families and despite our busy schedules we always make time to chat, especially around birthdays and Christmas. I am very hardworking and self-motivated. I am happy to be a live in nanny or live out nanny, however I am only available to be short/medium term as I am starting a finance graduate position in London in October. I am open to looking after your children and teaching them in any country and am extremely flexible on dates. Hope you are all staying safe,
