About JamesBack to Top
My approach to education over my 28 years as an educator is to have high expectations for ALL of my students. Although I have high expectations of my students, I provide the support students need to meet those expectations. One of the many keys to helping students succeed is to find HOW they learn and develop lessons that aid them. Often the old methods are the best, but they are not the only ones. I have often been commended by my administrators on my ability to adapt how I teach to individual students and groups of students. The key is to foster the natural abilities within each student so they gain confidence in themselves. I am not my students’ friend, I am their teacher. I do make lessons fun and enjoyable with the clear understanding they are their to learn. Students often complain about me while they have me, but they often come and see me for help after they have me. At the graduation ceremony of my latest class of students, one student, Julian, came to me at the ceremony and told me that I really pushed him and he thanked me for it. This was a student who often had to be written up for discipline infractions the year before. If you want a tutor that will go out of his way to push your child to succeed, then you are looking at the right person. In the states most schools use what is called the Danielson Rubric in evaluating teachers- from ineffective to Highly Effective. Every year, I achieved a rating of highly effective. Although I am new to Ireland, I have a total grasp of what is expected in the curriculum of each of the subjects I have listed. I am also aware of what is expected on each of the Leaving Certs and can help your students achieve on each of the exams.
