Hello, I am looking for a kind and patient person who is willing to support my mother towards the end of her life. She is 65, has been living with cancer for a decade now and is very independent, so has managed with just a friend calling in once a week to do some housekeeping so far. She will continue to have this support so cleaning duties in the house are already covered. However, as she has now been having chemo for the third time her cognition is becoming more affected and she is getting some infections, which are making things even harder. Her children don’t live nearby (I am based in the UK and my brother will also be UK based from January to June 2026) so we are looking for some additional support at this crucial time. We are happy to pay for core hours - such as maybe 2 x 2hrs a week for: - companionship and emotional support - running errands - Some degree of “doing with” - eg emptying dishwasher with her, she will tidy her own medicines and takes them herself, but maybe just providing some structure and oversight for this - similarly she is still heating up ready meals and making tea, doing a supermarket shop online but it would be useful to prompt her with these tasks and encourage her to keep mobilising around the house - odd tasks that crop up like taking the bin out and checking the post box - if you have flexibility to drive her to appointments sometimes (with advance notice and payment for the extra time) that would be really useful also. Please let me know if you feel you can assist. Currently her friend comes in on Thursdays for housekeeping so apart from Thursdays we are happy to look at the times you have available and work something out - as long as there is some time in the day that you can manage each week it doesn’t have to be a specific day.
