Live-In Carer (independent accommodation) — Ballymakeera, Co. Cork About the Role - We are a warm, welcoming family based in the beautiful village of Ballymakeera, Co. Cork, looking for a compassionate, fun-loving and reliable live-in carer to support our son (7), a young person with special needs, and to babysit our daughter (5) on a part-time basis of 15-20 hours per week. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people, values real connection, and wants to be part of family life in a stunning rural setting. Our son is a wonderful 7-year-old boy with autism and a mild-to-moderate intellectual disability. He is non-verbal and uses an AAC device to communicate, but anyone who spends time with him will quickly learn how clearly and expressively he gets his needs across — through eye contact, hand-leading, and a personality that is full of joy. He is gentle, affectionate, and has a great sense of humour. He loves music, cuddles, tickles, the swimming pool, being outdoors, and going for drives. His days have an important rhythm and routine, which his carer will need to follow. He also adores his little sister and the two of them have great fun together. The right carer for him will be someone who is calm, patient, playful, and genuinely experienced with children with special needs — someone who will see the whole wonderful person he is. The Role Involves supporting our lovely son with his day-to-day needs in a warm, engaging, and person-centred way. Helping him with his care needs as an autistic, non speaking child. Encouraging his independence, confidence, and enjoyment of life. It also includes minding our younger daughter as part of the role — someone who is great with kids of all ages will thrive here. Being a positive, fun presence in both children's lives The ideal candidate will have experience of working with children or young people with special needs. They will be be fun, energetic, and genuinely child-centred in their approach. Be warm, patient, and dependable. Commit to the role and make it a priority. Commit to a weekly schedule one week in advance based on our family's needs. We are very flexible people, but we would need flexibility coming back in relation to the hours across the week. Term times will differ from weekends and school holiday times. What We Offer - we pay €12 per hour (15-20 hours per week) and free accommodation in a self-contained apartment adjoining our home, with its own private entrance — fully independent living at no cost. The combined value of free accommodation and the hourly rate makes this an excellent package for the right person. Location is in Ballymakeera (Baile Mhic Íre), Co. Cork — a close-knit community in the heart of the Muskerry Gaeltacht. If you are interested -we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with a brief message about yourself and your relevant experience.
