About JobBack to Top
We are looking for a kind, patient and experienced childminder to join our family based in Dublin 8 to care primarily for a four-year-old child with additional needs, alongside occasional support with a newborn baby and a two-year-old sibling. We are looking for someone full-time from July, August or September who is compassionate, attentive and comfortable supporting a child with special needs. Our daughter has Angelman Syndrome, which means they have a severe learning disability, no verbal speech, limited understanding, and some physical challenges. She is not yet toilet trained, and we would appreciate a childminder who can gently support this journey while managing day-to-day toileting care with patience and understanding. Our daughter is not yet independently walking but is making excellent progress and currently walks holding an adult’s hand. As balance can be unsteady and she may place objects in their mouth, close supervision is essential at all times. She enjoys toys, books, playground outings, libraries, playgroups and engaging activities. We value a childminder who will take time to understand the child’s individual personality and needs and work collaboratively with both the parents and preschool teachers. A new baby is due in July, and Mum will be on maternity leave. There may therefore be occasions where the minder supports the baby while Mum spends one-to-one time with the older child. She attends preschool Wednesday to Friday, and duties may include collecting the child on foot or alternatively caring for the baby while Mum does collections. Experience with additional needs would be highly desirable; however, we are equally happy to speak with candidates who are genuinely interested in learning more about supporting children with disabilities. Our daughter has had a wonderful relationship with our current minder for the past two and a half years, and we hope to find someone who will continue that same loving, supportive and consistent approach. Duties to include preparing meals and snacks for the child, keeping play and living areas tidy, children’s laundry where required, and supporting daily routines and developmental activities.
