LIVE-IN NANNY Job Specification | South County Dublin Position Live-in Nanny Location South County Dublin Contract Permanent, full-time and long-term, subject to an agreed probation period Start date As soon as possible / by agreement Hours Up to 40 hours per week, primarily Monday to Friday, with flexibility for agreed evenings, weekends or overnight care Reporting to Parent / household employer About the family We are a warm, easy-going family based in South County Dublin seeking a caring, capable and dependable live-in nanny to provide consistent, high-quality care for two young children: one school-aged child and one toddler. This is a dad-only household with a supportive extended family living nearby. The successful candidate will become a trusted part of the children’s daily routine while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and privacy during off-duty time. Role purpose The nanny will have sole charge of the children during agreed working hours and will be responsible for their safety, wellbeing, care, development and daily routine. The role also includes child-related household tasks and a limited range of light household duties agreed in advance. The children’s needs and safety will always take priority. Key responsibilities Childcare, wellbeing and routines • Provide safe, attentive and nurturing care at all times, including appropriate supervision in the home, outdoors and during transport. • Attend to feeding, bathing, nappy changing, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene as appropriate to each child’s age. • Prepare and serve nutritious meals, bottles and snacks, while following any dietary, allergy or family requirements. • Manage age-appropriate sleep, nap, screen-time and behaviour routines in line with the parent’s approach. • Provide calm socio-emotional support, encourage independence, model respectful behaviour and support secure, consistent routines. • Monitor health and wellbeing, administer agreed medication only in line with written parental instructions, and promptly report illness, injury or safeguarding concerns. Learning, play and development • Plan engaging, developmentally appropriate play, reading, crafts, music, sensory activities, outdoor time and local outings. • Support homework, early learning, language development and reading in a positive, age-appropriate way. • Arrange and supervise occasional playdates and help the children build positive social skills. • Keep activities varied while recognising each child’s interests, developmental stage and need for rest. School, crèche and activities • Complete school and crèche drop-offs and collections safely and on time. • Transport the children to sports, music lessons, playdates, appointments and other organised activities. • Prepare school bags, uniforms, lunches, activity equipment and other items required for the following day. • Liaise appropriately with teachers, crèche staff, activity providers and other parents, keeping the parent informed of relevant updates. Evening and overnight care • Assist with the family’s evening routine, including dinner, bathing, preparation for the next day, stories and bedtime. • Provide occasional babysitting, weekend or overnight supervision when agreed in advance. • Overnight presence does not mean being on call 24/7. Any overnight duties, expected availability and payment arrangements will be clearly agreed and recorded. Child-related and light household duties • Prepare children’s meals and snacks and leave the kitchen clean and organised after use. • Load and unload the dishwasher and maintain the kitchen and main living areas to a reasonable day-to-day standard. • Complete children’s laundry, including washing, drying, folding/ironing and putting clothes away. • Change children’s bed linen and keep their bedrooms, wardrobes, play areas, toys and equipment tidy and organised. • Sweep or spot-clean floors where needed following meals, play or children’s activities. • Run agreed household errands, grocery shopping or pharmacy collections connected to the children and family routine. • Complete other light household duties only where agreed in advance. The role is not intended to replace a professional cleaner, and childcare takes priority. Communication and planning • Provide a brief daily handover covering meals, naps, activities, school or crèche updates, medication, incidents and general wellbeing. • Maintain clear communication with the parent and coordinate schedules with the parent’s PA where required. • Keep children’s calendars, appointments and essential supplies organised, and give reasonable notice when items need replacing. • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the children, family, home, visitors and personal information. No photographs or family information may be shared without permission. Working arrangements • A written weekly schedule will set out working hours, rest periods and normal duties. A split-day arrangement may apply around school and crèche hours. • Additional hours, babysitting, weekend work and overnight care must be agreed in advance and paid or provided as time off in lieu, as recorded in the employment contract. • The nanny is not on call outside agreed working hours. Off-duty time is private time and the nanny may come and go freely, subject to reasonable household security arrangements. • Working time, breaks, weekly rest, annual leave, public holidays, sick leave and payroll arrangements will comply with applicable Irish employment law and the written contract. • A car will be provided for work-related journeys. The nanny must use appropriate child restraints, follow road-safety requirements and maintain a clean driving record. Accommodation and benefits • Private furnished bedroom and separate private bathroom. • Household utilities, Wi-Fi and meals included while living in the home. • Use of shared kitchen, living and laundry areas, and agreed access to household facilities including the in-house gym. • Use of a family car for work duties, with personal use subject to agreement and insurance cover. • Clear house guidelines covering security, parking, visitors, overnight guests, quiet hours and use of shared spaces will be agreed at the start. Qualifications and experience Essential • Demonstrable professional childcare experience with young children and at least two recent, checkable childcare references. • Eligibility to work in Ireland and willingness to complete Garda vetting before commencing sole-charge duties. • Full driving licence valid in Ireland and confidence transporting children safely. • Current paediatric first-aid certification, or a commitment to complete approved training before starting. • Fluent spoken and written English, with clear and respectful communication skills. • Physically able to lift and carry a toddler, manage a buggy, complete school runs and participate in active play. • Non-smoker and willing to follow a smoke-free and substance-free household policy while on duty. Desirable • QQI Level 5 or higher qualification in Early Learning and Care, Childcare, or an equivalent recognised qualification. • Experience caring for both toddlers and school-aged children in a sole-charge nanny role. • Training or experience in child safeguarding, food safety, swimming supervision or supporting additional needs. • Confident home cooking and the ability to plan simple, balanced family meals. Personal qualities • Kind, patient, warm and genuinely interested in children’s development. • Reliable, punctual, organised and proactive without overstepping agreed boundaries. • Calm under pressure, safety-conscious and able to use sound judgement. • Flexible and comfortable working in a family home while respecting privacy and confidentiality. • Happy to build positive, professional relationships with grandparents, aunts, uncles and other people involved in the children’s lives. • Unused annual leave, carry-over arrangements and payment for outstanding leave when employment ends will be handled in line with the written contract and applicable Irish employment law. • Statutory sick leave, maternity leave, parent’s leave, parental leave and other statutory leave will be provided where eligibility requirements are met. • Additional hours, babysitting, weekend work or overnight care will not replace annual leave and will be managed separately through payment or agreed time off in lieu. • The employment contract will confirm whether any family holidays or periods when the nanny is not required to work will count as annual leave, paid normal working time or another agreed arrangement. • Holiday dates will be agreed between the nanny and the parent. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate preferred dates while ensuring suitable childcare arrangements remain in place. • Annual leave requests should normally be submitted at least four weeks in advance to support family and childcare planning. Longer notice may be requested for extended leave. • Irish public-holiday entitlements will apply in accordance with the employment contract and applicable Irish employment law. • The role includes four weeks’ paid annual leave per leave year, or the equivalent statutory entitlement where the employment year is shorter.
