About NualaBack to Top
Hi all, I’m seeking a position, considering overnights or a four to five day 24 cover. I have weekend obligations at the moment so I can’t do weekends. I have 4.5 years experience of sole care of a man with a brain injury who sadly passed away in June. I ran the house, liased with all the medical professionals, took him to all his appointments and took him on pleasure outings. I drive a wheelchair accessible car. My background until then was maternity nursing and child therapy. No care qualifications yet but I learned on the ground and have started the process of attaining the qualification. I love cooking and will present freshly cooked meals daily according to your tastes/ dietary requirements. Please contact if you’d like to discuss your situation or if you have any questions. Excellent references available. Thank you for reading.

We were incredibly lucky to have found Nuala.
Nuala was the full-time carer for my brother who suffered from a progressive illness due to an acquired brain injury. When Nuala first came to live with him, he was depressed, confused, severely physically incapacitated and almost non-verbal. Under her care he became engaged in life again, and had four good years before he sadly passed away. Nuala is exceptionally conscious of the need to afford dignity to someone who is disabled, and persistent in educating family, friends and other carers in avoiding the all too common bad habits of talking over someone in a wheelchair, not including them in conversations, and worst of all, speaking about them as if they weren’t in the room. This is a lesson I have applied to my interactions with others. Nuala made sure he had a real life and social engagement despite his disability, arranging visits with friends and outings. She also took an interest in his likes and dislikes, cooked all his favourite foods and played his favourite music. Nuala was also very pro-active in engaging with other professionals, physio and speech therapists especially, in working to improve his physical and communication abilities, in so far as it was possible, and for a long time there was a marked improvement in those regards. Unfortunately, the injury he suffered meant his condition deteriorated over time, despite all of Nuala’s efforts. As a result, Nuala became proficient in caring for someone with various degrees of physical (and ultimately, cognitive) disability, and familiar with using the various machines generously provided by the HSE. I really can’t speak highly enough of the care Nuala gave, her emotional intelligence in empathising with the frustrations of the disabled, coupled with her very practical approach and willingness to deal with day to practicalities, is a very rare combination. We were incredibly lucky to have found her.
