About MaëlleBack to Top

Hello, my name is Maëlle Cardon, I'm 18, and I currently live in Lille in the north of France, where I was born. I studied at lycée faidherbe at the Lycée Faidherbe in Lille, where I passed my baccalaureate this year with honors! On my mom side, who’s called Virginie, I live with her and my little sister Perrine, aged 15, whom I love with all my heart. Mum's been in a relationship for 2 years, with a man called Laurent, he’s the father of Léocadie, and I get on very well with them and we see each other regularly. On my dad side, who’s called Nicolas, we are 7 children. My father has been with someone for 10 years, called Lucie, and she has 3 children, Martin (17), Clémence (16) and Simon (14). Then there's Héloïse who's 7 and Suzanne who's 2. All 9 of us live in the house. Today, I'd like to become an au pair in Ireland to have a new experience doing what I love, looking after children. Those who know me would say above all that I'm a natural, sunny and optimistic person. I like to bring a positive atmosphere around me, whether it's in games, discussions or small everyday moments. I always have an optimistic attitude, even when the unexpected happens. I think I got that from my mother, her favourite sentence being ‘always look for that little bit of blue sky’. I'm also always caring, I try to be kind and respectful to those around me. Next, my attitude to work is an essential element of my personality : my perseverance and my taste for work well done. When I have a goal, I do everything I can to achieve it and, above all, to make sure it's done well. What's more, when I'm given a task like looking after children, I take my responsibilities very seriously. I'm someone you can count on: I organise myself, I respect the rules, and I always do things seriously and transparently. In life I like to do and try lots of things, especially sports, I've been horse-riding for 11 years and paragliding every summer for 5 years (these are my two passions). I've also done lots of other sports like judo, dance, roller derby, volleyball, handball and running. Generally, I like to get out and about, go for walks and hikes, and try out all sorts of sporting activities. But I don't just move around all the time or I'd be exhausted! So in the rest of my free time I make manual activities, especially embroidery and crochet, but also DIY (I made the costumes I'm wearing on the front page of my photo album). I love board games, especially puzzles. Finally, reading in the evening before going to bed is my little pleasure. The first time I looked after a child I was 11 years old and it was when my little sister Héloïse was born. I took care of himwith my dad (changing her nappy, bathing her, etc.), played with her and fed her. Today, I still look after her, she's 7 years old, she's a very boisterous child (she can't keep still) but overflowing with love. Even though she was a very small baby, I knew how to handle her, it was almost natural, and I've always had this facility with children ever since. Then, when I was 15, my other little sister was born and this time I looked after her even more independently, which reinforced my ability to look after children. Today she's 2 and I still look after her a lot. She's much calmer than her sister, but doesn't hesitate to get into mischief whenever she can! I regularly look after both of them at the same time, which is a lot of sport but I have a lot of fun with them. I also looked after my cousin Paul when he was 9, 10 and 11, and played lots of board games with him. I also worked as activity leader in activity center in Lille, every Wednesday afternoon and during the April vacations, which enabled me to develop my childcare skills considerably in a professional setting. Finally, I also this year helped out with the local scout group, taking part in weekends and scout meetings as a scout leader. I was able to learn how to put up Canadian tents with kids and take care of them day and night outdoors. I do a lot of things with kids, but I never tire of being with them, they bring me so much. With them, I can be who I am without worrying. I really feel I can recharge my batteries with kids. Being an au pair in Ireland is a project I've been planning for a very long time, because I've been finding out about it for two years now, researching the procedures and what it's like, so I know this experience is right for me. I'm tired from my studies, so I need to take a break to get ready for higher education. I'm also itching for a change and a challenge. But it's mainly because of what this experience offers that I'm motivated by the au pair experience. But it's above all for what this experience offers that I'm motivated. Of course, it would enable me to improve my English, but above all it would give me the chance to discover a new culture and meet new people, which is what I love most. When I was thinking about my project, I chose Ireland as my host country, because it's a country with a reputation for being very hospitable, and its habitants are very kind, so I think I'd feel right at home there. Ireland is also a country that has always attracted me with its exceptional landscapes, customs and traditions. My career plan is to become a children's judge, so I applied to the Lille University of Law, where I was immediately accepted. This professional project is particularly close to my heart because I want to help and protect children from the justice system. I feel that children are not heard or listened to enough. Today, my high school studies have stretched me to the limit, and to be able to embark on the long road of law studies and realize my dream, I need to take a break. I'm young, but I think I'm mature for my age, the reason being that my parents divorced when I was 6, and from that age I had to take charge of myself in addition to my little sister Perrine. What's more, my parents always passed on adult information, which got me very involved in adult tasks right from the start. I developed maturity, autonomy and adaptability very early on. Also, my solid experience with children has enabled me to acquire the skills and mechanisms needed to take care of children despite my young age. Thank you for reading my letter to the end. This project is very close to my heart, as I've explained. I've been thinking about this project for 2 years, I've thought about it for a long time and I'm sure I want and am ready for this experience. And like everything else in my life, I intend to give my all to achieve this project, which means so much to me.
