Hi, my name is Sarah. I’m a 21-year-old second year student living in Limerick and currently working part-time as a Healthcare Assistant in a nursing home. I absolutely love my job and caring for older people. One of my favourite parts of the role is having chats, sharing a bit of craic, and helping residents feel comfortable, relaxed, and able to smile, even on difficult days. I have both professional and personal experience caring for older adults. When I was younger, I lived with my grandaunt who had dementia and was at risk of falls. During that time I gained valuable experience supporting her with day-to-day life, including helping organise meals, managing nighttime confusion, and making sure she was safe and comfortable at home. That experience taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of understanding each person’s needs. Through my work in a nursing home, I have developed strong skills in providing compassionate care, supporting independence, and creating a friendly and respectful environment for older people. I’m reliable, approachable, and genuinely enjoy spending time with those I care for. I would love the opportunity to support someone in their home, whether that’s helping with daily tasks, providing companionship, or simply having a good chat and keeping them company.
