About Me Hi, my name is Sophie and I am a caring, patient and responsible 20-year-old with a genuine passion for helping and caring for others. I am interested in childcare, nannying, babysitting and caregiving roles, including supporting elderly people and individuals who may have additional care or support needs. I completed a year of Early Childhood Education and Care at TUS, where I gained valuable knowledge and practical understanding of child development, safeguarding, communication, care routines and the importance of creating a safe, supportive and positive environment for children. Through my time studying childcare, I also became Garda vetted. I have additional hands-on experience caring for children with special educational and behavioural needs. My younger sister is 11 and has additional needs, and I have provided regular care and support for her. This has given me first-hand experience in understanding that every child is different and may require patience, reassurance, flexibility and an individual approach. I am comfortable managing challenging situations calmly and creating an environment where a child feels safe, understood and respected. I also have several years of experience in the makeup and beauty industry, including working with clients and teaching makeup. I spent a year teaching makeup to girls aged 9–16, which developed my communication, patience, organisation and ability to adapt how I explain things depending on the child’s age and personality. Working in beauty has also given me a strong understanding of hygiene, sanitation, cleanliness and infection-control principles, as maintaining high standards of cleanliness is essential when working closely with other people. Through volunteering with Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention, I have also completed training in basic first-aid principles and mental health awareness. This experience helped me develop my listening skills, empathy and understanding of how important it is to treat people with dignity, compassion and without judgement. I believe my combination of childcare education, hands-on family experience, teaching experience, hygiene knowledge, mental health awareness and caring nature would allow me to provide dependable and compassionate care. I am patient, approachable and responsible, and I understand the importance of building trust with both the person I am caring for and their family. I would be very happy to work with children, teenagers, families, elderly people or anyone who needs an extra helping hand and supportive presence. I take pride in being someone others can feel comfortable and safe around, and I always aim to provide care that is respectful, encouraging and tailored to the individual’s needs.
