About LaraBack to Top
"A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet" Dear host family, my name is Lara and I am 18 years old. I was born and raised in Germany, but I often spend summer in Iraq, my family's native country. My father has a rather old mentality and is therefore quite strict, but my three siblings are very sweet and have shown me how even just an older child can be taken as a role model and how much this can then shape the little ones' view of the world. Together they have taught me kindness and empathy, made up new games to play with me throughout the day, and made sure I am happy and healthy. Even today, I love spending my free time with my siblings. Along with cultural activities like going to the theater or the opera, we often visit the cinema, the amusement park, relax in thermal baths, or just go out to eat. After my stay abroad, I would like to study English and history to become a teacher. I wish to pursue this career because I find the personal development of children very fascinating and I want to support them in this process. Encouraging their open-mindedness and imagination as well as being a virtuous role model for them is of great importance to me. I recently graduated from the Gymnasium Allermöhe Highschool in Hamburg, where I successfully passed my A-levels. My favorite subjects are English and drama. For many years I was involved in various social activities at my school, including serving as student representative, class president, and junior psychologist, and I use the experience I have gained meanwhile by occasionally supervising field trips with my relatives of various child ages. I am physically durable and do not feel overwhelmed when supervising large groups. To learn more pedagogical skills I have done an internship in a daycare center, and have also been an Au Pair once in Longford, Ireland. I only stayed for two weeks, but enjoyed the time and I look forward to doing it again, except this time i'm willing to stay for up to a year. I have never thought of caring for children as overwhelming. I have been listening to their needs and tried to understand their interests to involve them in fun activities. I love to mix those with educational activities as well. In my free time, I enjoy reading and writing stories, besides that, I am into poetry, philosophy, and art, for example. Currently, drawing and baking are two things that interest me a lot, but I'm not the best at them in terms of quality, haha. I follow a vegan diet, but of course I have no problems living with a family that follows a different diet. I'm even willing to change my own diet simply because when I go abroad, it's very important to me to explore the new country as much as possible, which includes the culinary side. Speaking of which, I'm especially looking forward learning about my host family's lifestyle and traditions! I think these little interpersonal interactions will be my biggest highlight. I'm super excited and looking forward to getting to know all of you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Yours, Lara [Lgsh at outlook dot de]
