My name is Marina, I'm 31 years old from Brazil and I've been living in Cork since November 2021. I came to Ireland initially to learn English, experience Irish culture and make new friends. In Brazil, I worked in marketing and advertising. When I arrived in Ireland, I worked first as a cleaner and then in a bakery. These were fine while I found my feet, however, I knew I wanted something more. After some career research, I came across Childminding and it really resonated with me. I have a younger sister with Down Syndrome and being able to actively participate in her childhood development was always so rewarding. Childminding means being able to support families in this all important nurture and development. I was delighted when I had the opportunity to work with a lovely family and two lovely boys (16 month old twins). I’ve learned a lot with the family and the boys and was able to further develop my English communication abilities and skills as a childminding professional. Working as a childminder has been an incredible experience so far and has made me certain of my choice to enter the childhood universe which is simultaneously challenging, beautiful and loving.
