Suncroft Lodge Nursing Home In caring for the residents there were a number of routines I carried out daily for them. When I started my shift I took part in a handover from the staff who were finishing their shift . During meal time and tea time I handed out meals and assisted the residents if and when needed with feeding. I assisted the residents if and when needed with toileting. This sometimes involved a full hoist or a standing hoist. I have been trained for changing catheter bags for residents. I often escorted residents from the nursing home to hospital appointments. I have completed a manual handling course which trained me how to appropriately reposition residents when necessary using the appropriate movements. As well as caring for the physical and medical needs of the residents, I also cared for them emotionally. The residents enjoyed having their nails done, their makeup and their hair. I also took part n exercises, music and bingo classes with the residents to ensure they got the most enjoyment from these activities. I worked in a convalescent and post operative rehabilitation care unit. Although many of the duties I carried out in this unit are similar to the residents nursing home, there are some differences. Many of the residents in this unit had emotional and mental problems stemming from alcohol and drug abuse. Some residents had suffered brain aneurysms, strokes or may be paralysed. Although it was challenging I also feel it was very rewarding. Under the supervision of nursing staff I have administered medicines to the residents. Askea Carlow Day Care Centre Carlow During my time working here I met many wonderful and interesting people. I really enjoyed my time working with elderly people who are in need of care and support during their daily lives. I was responsible for welcoming clients into the day care centre and have tea and refreshments ready for them on their arrival. I organised daily activities such as bingo,music and sports for the elderly that use the centre. Once a week I assisted with the collection and returning home of some clients on the Day Care Centre bus. During the day I ensured all the clients availed of a snack, dinner and tea before leaving the centre. Some of the clients required showers which I often assisted them with. I tried to ensure all my clients had a happy and fun time when they came to the centre. I spent a lot of time speaking with, caring for and getting to know my clients so I could help meet their needs. Cloverlodge Nursing Home, Athy, Co. Kildare During my time in Cloverlodge, I was responsible for assisting and caring for the patients but also had the new experience of using the hoist while aiding patients into and out of the shower and bed. I also used my knowledge to correctly assist patients into and out of wheelchairs and to and from walking aids. During my time here I also spent time with the patients during social activities and excursions around the nursing home. St. Vincent’s Hospital, Athy, Co Kildare During my time in St. Vincent’s Hospital I was responsible for caring for elderly patients which included assisting them in dressing, during meal times, showering and going to and from the bathroom. I also spent time assisting them to and from social events within the hospital. I am a caring, kind and honest person and have proven to be a hardworking and reliable team player which I have shown during my time caring for others in the hospital and nursing home settings.
