About JonJoeBack to Top
I am a Connemara man & a native Irish speaker, I moved to London at the age of 18 where I lived there for 9 years. I worked on the construction sites for many years but in the evenings I also worked as a barman since the age of 16. I then decided to take over a public house on my own for a few years, but after 9 years I decided to move home in December 2021 when I realised that my Grandfather needed around the clock care. My Grandfather lived in Cork, I decided to fly into Cork airport so I could see for myself how my Grandfather was. His dementia had increased rapidly, so I then made the decision to take it upon myself to care for him in Connemara, Co.Galway. I brought him home to my parents house, it was around the clock care he had needed. As time went on his dementia had increased rapidly after having a mini stroke on Christmas Day. From morning to night, I would get him up in the morning, leave on his pyjamas but I would also put on his robe and slippers. With assistance I would bring out to the kitchen with the aid of his walking frame. I would prepare his porridge, banana & pineapple juice, which he loved every morning. Through out the day I would keep him occupied with the Tv or chatting away to him, but with dementia changing his personality a bit and the person who he was he would prefer to sit in peace to watch the tv. After his lunch everyday, I would bring him back for his daily nap, his nap would be 3 hours every day that’s what he liked. Then I would get him up & dressed for dinner, which he enjoyed his food so much. He would then relax every evening in front of the tv amongst my parents and I and would enjoy a mug of tea & a few bourbon biscuits. I use to love then putting him to bed as we would have such a laugh and a chat and he was always so appreciative but I always ensured him that’s what I was here for and don’t be afraid to ask for anything. Of course when it came to bathing him, this would be every 3rd morning, and again we use to have such a laugh times like these. Unfortunately my Grandfather passed away in June of last year 2023 & I decided upon myself that it was time for me to pursue a career in healthcare. I have a lots of experience with other clients, elderly men & also adults with Down syndrome. My choice of career is eventually to work with adults with Down syndrome full time. I hope this Bio has helped you get a better picture of who I am and the sort of character I am. I live in Galway city & I attend GTI on father Griffin road from Monday- Wednesday 9-3 This is where I am enrolled on the healthcare assistant course so I can finally get my QQI Level 5 Degree in healthcare assistant Please don’t hesitate to contact me via phone or email Also I am fully Garda vetted and can email you a copy. I am a great cook & can easily cook something filling and nutritious for the client Warm regards JonJoe
